SAPEK Position Descriptions

President

  • Oversee and coordinate SAPEK operations

  • Supervise and delegate tasks among council members

  • Represent SAPEK at CEGEP information sessions and Discover McGill, and on various boards and committees in the event the VP External is unavailable

  • Enforce SAPEK constitution and by-laws

  • Act as co-signing officer for SAPEK finances, along with VP Finance

  • Determine weekly agenda for the meetings

  • Create subcommittees and oversee their success

  • Write an exit report for the following year’s president, including suggestions to improve performance

**Position must be filled by a member who has served on council for at least a year**

 

VP External

  • Form collaborative social, academic, and professional projects with other student-run and community organizations in the fields of kinesiology and physical education.

  • Write an exit report for the following year’s VP External, including suggestions to improve performance.

  • Represent SAPEK on various Boards and Committees, including but not limited to the following:

  1. Department Meetings with KPE faculty

  2. Education Undergraduate Society (EdUS)

  3. Partner with the undergraduate program director from the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education

  4. Collaborate with the career advisor to facilitate professional opportunities available for KPE students 

  5. Attend other necessary meetings representing SAPEK with regards to community outreach

**Position should be filled by a member who has served on council for at least a year**

 

VP Internal

  • Collaborate with the Social Coordinator to plan social events.

  • Collaborate with the VP Academic to plan academic events. 

  • Coordinate clothing orders in the fall and winter semesters.

  • Hold meetings in the event the President is unavailable. 

  • Write an exit report for the following year’s VP Internal, including suggestions to improve performance.

**Position should be filled by a member who has served on council for at least a year**

 

VP Finance

  • Determine a budget for SAPEK.

  • Maintain written records of monthly finances.

  • Ensuring the President signs for the opening and closing bank balance at the beginning and end of the academic year.

  • Present monthly reports on the status of account and proof with bank receipts.

  • Act as co-signing officer for all SAPEK monies with the President.

  • Obtain all receipts from council committee budget expenditures.

  • Write an exit report on the state of SAPEK’s finances for the following year’s VP Finance.

 

VP Communications

 

  • Record meeting minutes, including votes and motions passed or denied.

  • Manage SAPEK social media accounts and events boards.

  • Advertise events coordinated by SAPEK and other external organizations relevant for KPE students.

  • Update of the official SAPEK website.

  • Manage SAPEK's official email account (including replying, forwarding to people of interest within council, and organizing messages).

  • Writing an exit report for next year’s VP Communications, including suggestions to improve performance.

 

VP Academic

  • Oversee and recruit KPE undergraduates for the SAPEK peer tutoring program,

  • Recruit KPE undergraduates for the EduBuddies mentoring program lead by EdUS.

  • Coordinate and guide lab tours with the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education.

  • Promote student resources for academic support on campus. 

  • Collaborate with the career advisor to plan and advertise events related to professional development for KPE students.

  • Manage SAPEK Student Life Scholarship with the Faculty of Education.

  • Manage SAPEK Professional Development and Research Student Fund.

 

Social Coordinator(s)

  • Oversee and organize social and student life events hosted by SAPEK.

  • Collaborate with other student-run organizations to host social events.

  • Ensure student awareness and participation in the events hosted by SAPEK and its collaborators. 

  • Present a written record of the outcome of the event to Council.

  • Write an exit report to be provided to future members.

 

Year/Program Representatives

  • Create a FaceBook group for your year

  • Serve as a liaison between SAPEK and your cohort

  • Advertise and promote SAPEK’s and its partners’ academic, social, professional development and community outreach events

  • Ensure the involvement of cohort in SAPEK events and initiatives

  • Support council executives in the execution of their roles by joining subcommittees

  • U3 Kinesiology Representative and U4 Physical Education Representative shall organize grad photos with Lassman Studios
